WHAT IF WE COULD BE BORN WITHOUT GENDER AND CHOOSE IT LATER?
Under this premise, I imagine a post-gender society that relies blindly on science and considers the elimination of sexual differences as a liberating action, making gender something to choose from.
In this scenario, humans by means of advanced biotechnologies have eliminated the sexual differences between men and women. A non-binary society that accepts great biological fluidity and is ruled by psychological androgyny.
With the help of these hormones from the future, all have the capacity to voluntarily transition to man or woman, to the mixture of the two or to remain without gender.
What would this transition path be like? Would gender-based violence continue to exist? Would it be a more mentally open and tolerant society?, At what point should the transition to man or woman “stop”? Are there limits to being a man or a woman? What does it really mean to be a man? What does it really mean to be a woman? Are we currently defined (limited) by our biological sexual characteristics? Do we really need to have a defined gender to be considered functional humans? Through what means could reproduction take place and what would it be like?...
As with any speculative design project, there are always more questions than answers.
